To assist brass players in becoming great orchestral musicians, WYSO began the Brass Choir Program. The brass section of each of WYSO's three orchestras rehearses each Saturday before their orchestra rehearsal to learn music expressly written for brass ensemble. This program is required for all brass players in WYSO.
Playing in a brass choir allows members to become more proficient on
their instrument, learn sectional teamwork, and explore repertoire
outside of the orchestral setting.
In January and May, the three individual three brass choirs perform in a Brass
Choir Recital.

Dan Brice, Brass Choir Director, was a member of the Youth Orchestra in the mid-90s and served as WYSO's brass sectional coach from 2004-2007. He earned a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from UW-Madison. Dan is the Instrument Shop Manager for the university and a tuba player with the Madison Wind Ensemble.
