The Youth Orchestra was founded in 1966 and is WYSO’s premier orchestra, performing advanced orchestral literature. Members generally have several years of ensemble experience and perform individually at a pre-college or college level. The Youth Orchestra is under the direction of Music Director James Smith and rehearses from 9 AM to 12 PM on Saturday mornings. Youth Orchestra holds 3 concerts each season and has the opportunity to tour nationally or internationally approximately every 3-4 years. Auditions for membership are held each Spring.
