CONDUCTOR HEARINGS

What is a Conductor Hearing? Mr. Smith (Youth Orchestra), Mr. Buchhauser (Philharmonia Orchestra), and Mrs. Eckel (Concert Orchestra) hold "conductor hearings" every fall for string players who would like to be heard individually by their conductor. The hearing is not mandatory, but an opportunity for string players to display leadership skills as well as musicality and technique. Required excerpts always come from the music currently being rehearsed. A list of excerpts were distributed on the first rehearsal day. Hearings take place after rehearsal on the dates listed below. Sign-up sheets have been posted on rehearsal room doors, or members may e-mail Joe (jbernstein@wyso.music.wisc.edu) to be assigned a time. Sign up will end one week before each hearing date.

Upcoming Conductor Hearings
October 3 Philharmonia Violin 2/ Bass, Concert Cello
October 10 Philharmonia Viola/Cello

Volunteer Update

A giant THANK YOU goes out to our many volunteers who assisted with the first rehearsal on September 12. Mary Jo Froden, Brian Buchanan, Nancy Hacker, Deb Kabler, Amy Cifre, Bo Liu, Charles Valmadrid, David Bicknase, Libby Bestul, Linda Yanping Qin, Lisa Biegel, Peggy Veith, Peter van Kan, Shi Jin, Susan Killips, and Yvette Cramer were a tremendous team who met the challenge of the Parent Coffee Hour and the pizza party head on. Thanks also to the parents who brought juice, muffins, and assisted new WYSO families.

Our attendance takers and hall monitors have also done a superb job keeping track of our young musicians and assisting parents new to the Saturday routine. Applause goes to Sean Patchin, Sheryl Cordell, Peter Anderson, Amy Cifre, Becky Oliva, John Walker, Mary Sewell, Andrew Sewell, Corinna Hill, Carole Trone, Fanyou Xie, Brenda Englebretsen, and Ann-Marie McNamara.

Thanks also to our newsletter folders, Debra Greane, Raelene Goodwin, Sheryl Cordell, Carole Trone and Corinna Hill who prepared the Connection mailing to music teachers.

The volunteers who helped us prepare the annual campaign, Katy LaBuda, Patty Schenk, Raelene Goodwin, and Cindy Whip, did a great job and special thanks to Carolyn Haerr and Haley Haerr Hartmann who helped us prepare the membership packets over the summer.

Our WYSO Photo Team members Jon Harlow and Graham Lee captured some great shots of young musicians in rehearsal and at the retreat. Watch for their work in the upcoming WYSO 2010 Calendar!
