MUSICAL
NOTES KICK-OFF: A TASTE OF WYSO
|
|
MUSICAL NOTES FAMILY FUNDRAISING
CAMPAIGN Kick-Off Event: A Taste
of WYSO Saturday, December 8,
11:30am to 1:30pm UW Humanities
Building, Mills Hall Lobby
On December 8, 2007, WYSO families
will kick off the Musical Notes Campaign, WYSO's major
family fundraising project, with A Taste of
WYSO. Join in the celebration and enjoy WYSO
families' favorite recipes. The event will run from
11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Mills
Hall lobby of the UW Humanities Building in the
Mills Hall Lobby. This will be an opportunity for
parents and students to pick up the Musical Notes
packet, ask questions about the campaign, get new and
creative fundraising ideas, and eat delicious
home-cooked food!
As participants in the campaign, families share their
love of music and commitment to WYSO by asking for cash
donations that provide direct operating support for the
current budget year. This campaign is a critical
component of WYSO's annual budget. Tuition paid by
families covers roughly 28 percent of the real cost
of each member's participation in WYSO. Money
raised as part of the Musical Notes Campaign helps make
up the difference and keeps tuition costs in
check.
If you are new to WYSO or have not participated in
the Campaign before, you are in for a surprise: raising
money in the Musical Notes Campaign is easy! By
sharing personal stories about their WYSO experience and
how it has positively impacted their lives, WYSO members
build awareness about the organization and raise money
at the same time. Most families find that writing a
letter telling their own WYSO story and including a
request for a donation proves to be highly
successful and simple!
This year's campaign runs from December 8,
2007 through February 2, 2008. Packets will be
distributed to families at A Taste of WYSO. In
the packet, you will find the Family Guide with
easy-to-follow instructions for participating in the
Campaign successfully and many helpful hints about who
to ask and how to get started. We encourage families to
review these materials and launch your campaigns right
away; February 2 will arrive before you know it!
If you have questions about the Musical Notes
Campaign, please contact Della Copp (835-0589; fishnfam@verizon.net), Jackie Hickey
(838-8255; jackie_hickey@mcfarland.k12.wi.us) or
your respective Orchestra Chairs.
We are still looking for volunteers to:
- Make a family favorite dish to share
- Bring paper products
- Help Set Up/Clean Up
If you are interested in helping, please contact:
Sinfonietta and Concert Orchestra - Elise Erdmann, needhotchili@sbcglobal.net Philharmonia
and Youth Orchestra - LinZhu Tian, tianlinzhu@yahoo.com. | |

MAJOR TOUR SURVEY-
UPDATE |
|
Thank you to all of you who completed the WYSO
Tour Survey at surveymonkey.com. 76 people completed the
survey, which is about 22 percent of current WYSO
families. The results have been forwarded to the Board
of Directors' Major Travel/Tour Committee for analysis.
They will look at the data and strive to find a travel
opportunity that is as strong a match as
possible.
Ultimately, WYSO's travel policy strives to
provide a musical experience that offers multiple
opportunities for performance (elevating the level
of performance), relationship building experiences
amongst WYSO members, and a significant and safe
personal experience for members. We'll keep you updated
in the months ahead.

ART OF NOTE - STUDENT DESIGN
WINNER |
|
The Art of Note Committee of Artists Past had
a very difficult time deciding who would
design the WYSO member violin for the 2008 Art of
Note fundraising project. Incredibly impressed with all
of the entries, they
ultimately chose Emily
Lutz's submission. Emily is a senior
at Memorial HS and violinist in Youth Orchestra.
Her design includes very detailed paintings of
different birds.
A special thank you to all
participants: Jane Goh, Julia Kroll,
Sharon Lu, Hannah Silber, Charles Xu and Tianchi
Zhao.
Another reminder that we are still looking for
big-ticket auction items for the Final Event Gala;
Thursday, June 5, 2008 from 6-9 pm at the Madison Club.
If you have an auction item to donate, please contact
Jill Johnson, Development Director; (608) 263-3320

BAD WEATHER POLICY |
|
Although WYSO rarely cancels rehearsals due
to bad weather, we will notify families by email
and state cancellations on the WYSO voicemail
system by 7:00 a.m. If rehearsal is not cancelled but
you decide the drive is too difficult or unsafe, leave a
voicemail message in your orchestra’s mailbox stating
your plans. Alternatively, you may send an email
message to wyso@wyso.music.wisc.edu prior to your
rehearsal starting time, stating your plans.
Absences due to bad weather will not be
considered a commitment issue, but will
count toward your total misses for a concert cycle.
Please re-visit the attendance policy for further
clarification. | |

| "THANK
YOU" FROM CASEY |
|
Dear WYSO Members,
My husband and I would like to thank all of you who
contributed to our wedding gift. We loved the big
posterboard card that many of you signed, and are very
appreciative of the Target gift card that was purchased
with the money contributed. Thank you very much
for your generosity. In addition, I feel that the
Steenbock concerts were a real gift in themselves -
thanks for the great music!
Sincerely, Casey Oelkers, Operations
