Private Lesson Scholarship Program

WYSO encourages all students participating in its program to attend lessons with a private teacher to supplement the instruction they receive at school and in WYSO. These lessons allow students to receive the one-on-one attention they need to excel in a music program. However, for many families this is a prohibitive additional cost. WYSO began addressing this need by creating a program for lesson subsidies. Scholarship information is available with the WYSO acceptance packet.
Applications (available online) are due with the other forms in early June. Students must re-apply each year to be considered. The program is competitive and is based on financial need, teacher's recommendations and demonstrated dedication. Awards may very from year to year based on available funds and number of applicants. Students accepted into the program begin lessons in September. Students and parents write evaluations at the beginning and the end of the program, which lasts approximately the duration of the WYSO season, September to May. Families are required to pay a portion of their lesson cost, which is determined when the scholarship is awarded in July. Full scholarships are not awarded. These scholarships are divided into the Harmony and Counterpoint Projects.
