Terms of Agreement

The objective of the WYSO Counterpoint Program is to allow advanced students with financial need to progress further in their musical education. WYSO does this by subsidizing hour-long lessons. WYSO expects the student’s family to pay some of the cost of each lesson, which is determined at the time of the scholarship award. WYSO pays the teacher the full cost of the lesson and invoices the family monthly for their portion.

Students are expected to attend weekly lessons and maintain regular progress with their teacher. Teachers submit evaluations twice a year to WYSO. The following are the minimum expectations for each student in the Private Lessons Scholarship Program:
1) Be prepared for each lesson. Practice weekly assignments on a regular basis.
2) Bring music, instrument, and accessories to each lesson.
3) Be on-time for your lesson.
4) Give your teacher at least 24 hours notice if you must cancel a lesson. (You will be charged the full cost of lessons cancelled with less than 24 hours notice.)

Students who are consistently absent, tardy, or who have not made a payment on their account for more than three consecutive months will be subject to expulsion from the program. Students must re-apply each year; they are not automatically re-enrolled in the program. Students currently in the program will be assessed along with prospective Private Lessons Scholarship students. The private teacher evaluation of current students will be used as part of the decision making for any future scholarship awards. This program is competitive. WYSO takes into account financial need, teacher’s recommendations and demonstrated commitment. Awards may vary from year to year based on available funds and the number of applicants.
