What are the audition requirements? What do I need to prepare?

General Criteria:
Every student auditioning for a WYSO orchestra is responsible for the following components during an audition: scales, a prepared solo, orchestral excerpts and a sight-reading component.

Specific Requirements by orchestra level:
Specific requirements within each category are determined by the instrument the student plays and the orchestra level for which he or she chooses to audition.

How much is tuition? Can I apply for a scholarship?

Students who sucessfully audition into the WYSO program are assessed a tuition charge of $425-$550 per year. Need-based scholarship funds are available for tuition, private lesson support, and international touring.

When will I learn the result of my audition?

Results for string players are sent in the mail each Tuesday following an audition date. Results for Woodwind, Brass, and Percussion students will be sent May 12 after the annual spring concerts are completed.

No audition results will be given over the phone!
